My opinion is that you can delete all the topics posted more then a week ago or so. This way you can get more tidiness into the forum.
Why delete any posts?

Me, and many other people, use the "search" function to browse the database before asking. The whole database is very util.

I think that maybe the hacker simply detached the threads from the subforums... or did that rat *actually* delete the data?
OK, when you can do it this way, I agree with you. Then there's no need to delete any post.
as he just got into the admin panel of the site, i'd say he simply deleted them. stupid twit.
This is pretty bad! :-( Sorry this had to happen to you Wildcard! :'( this is the sort of thing that made ecplusplus.com shut down! Well, hey look a the bright side, the profiles (users) are still intact! Wink
Yeah. Wildcard, you have all our support. We'll build up this forum, it will be reborn from its ashes.

"But I'd rather stay here - with all the madmen that perish with the sadmen roaming FREE!"
hmmm...this is sad news.
Me (and my lack of knowledge) didn't think that anyone with "normal" skills would be able to hack a site like this. But that just shows how little I know about stuff like that.

Anyway, WE stand behind you Wildcard. In the past, now and in the future.

May God cast a fireball on the one(s) that did this...
Ahhh, fireball would be best... but suddenly in there sleep would be ok! Wink ok, sorry that was bad
nah, jocke, god should save his fireballs for smiting dubya's english professor.

and to nate:

"aaand we will allll.. go down... togetheeeer!! *do do do* and wee will allllll go down togeeether!!"

and to jocke again:
you dont need to hack as your mere presence is enough to destroy even the most secure of servers (unix)!!.
I was stupid not to have backups but I'm going to put in a cronjob to backup the database of posts weekly now automatically. The last backup I had was from when we changed over from phpBB 1 to phpBB 2, quite a while ago. That was only 1.4 megs as opposed to the 13 megs that the database was before it was deleted by the idiots yesterday.
