O.K.

I'm at a loss.

I need a program that I can use which translates *.avi files to DVD files in AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS format so I can play them with my DVD player on TV. I cannot find one single working program. Everything doesn't work in some way or another. It's insane. Don't bother using google.

Help?
Nero Burning ROM.
TMPGEnc.

videohelp.com is the only resource anyone should ever need.
I already tried that. It only seems to make mpg files not audio ts and video ts stuff..

>"Nero Burning ROM."
That's a bit difficult to use. Can it convert AVI to audio ts and video ts?
Nero difficult? All I do is drag files to the window, then press BURN. It's no rocket science. It even comes with a wizard-driven DVD menu creator so you can add pics, audio and video clips and they are nicely presented on a menu with snapshots.

If you wanna go 'leet, I guess that Sony DVD Architect has the best ease-of-use/professionality ratio. It's my pick to create "complex" DVDs with animated menus and interaction.
Well, I used nero before for other purposes, and it didn't work too well..

I guess I'll try it.
Does nero have MPEG2 encoding support?
I got version 6 with my last burner, but never bothered to install it. I might though if it will do AVI->DVD.

At the moment i do AVI->MPEG2->VOB->DVD, which uses three seperate programs.

TMPGEnc's DVD author does it (not their Mpeg edit program). I use DVD Author here to create the DVD folders/files, then I use Nero to burn them to dvd. Works for me.

I have the opposite request. I want DVD to m4v for my ipod. How can I do that legally?
i would recomend 'DVD Decrypter' for ripping the VOBS from the DVD, and breaking the CSS. Then I would recommend using 'VirtualDub MPEG2+AC3'
to do the conversion. You will need a m4v codec aswell. I always recomend videohelp.com for a good place to get software and tutorials on these subjects.

How legal this is all depends on your countrys laws. Here in the UK, as far as i remember you are not allowed to make back-ups for personal use, and using DVD Decrypter to break the CSS on a protected DVD is probably illegal.
