I am having a very hard time here, can some one please tell me why I can't get relative paths to work?
I am working in QB 4.5 on a Windows 98 SE.
I have looked at many articles, resources, and tutorials including this one:
http://faq.qbasicnews.com/?blast=RelativePaths
This does nothing for me, everyone swears I must be doing
something wrong.
They all say basicly the same thing.
Is there something wrong with my computer?
I tried it on windows 95 and windows XP and I still get the same results.
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
Jony_Basic
Those paths are relative to the current directory, which might not be the same as the directory your executable is in.

Do you have any code that exhibits the problem?
I read that tutorial on RelativePaths, and I consider it to be very poorly written.

The term "Relative Paths" is not universal. There are other ways to have a program not be tied down to hard-coded paths.

So, tell us:
* What you want to do.
* What/how you implemented this in your program.
* What happens or does not happen correctly.

Moneo, you can change it ... don't you have the username and pass for it?

Change what, Aga? I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. Another thread, maybe?

The tutorial..

The tutorial about relative paths? No way, I'm not going to change someone else's tutorial, even if had access rights, which I don't.

Well, it's designed so that everyone who has access can edit anything... Sumo Jo can probably email you the info if you change your mind.

Look, Aga, I'll be perfectly honest with you. If I were to get into this tutorial, I would have to rewrite it from scratch, and I don't consider myself qualified to write a tutorial on the subject, especially when newbies are running QB programs right out of Windows without first positioning themselves onto the DOS commandline like we did in the old days. I'm not about to write a QB tutorial about relative paths that also covers how Windows handles folders plus the 8.3 file naming conventions of DOS.

If you're so keen about having the tutorial modified, feel free to change or rewrite the tutorial yourself.

Eek. Well I'm not quite sure about what "8.3 filenaming conventions for DOS" are, so I don't think I'll be able to do anything.
