If you check out the Microsoft Website, everyone's gearing up for Vista. Here's the question: is your computer, in its current state, able to handle Vista?

It says you'd need 512mb ram, a decent processor (around 2GHz, I assume), and a DirectX 9-class video card. On top of that, they are suggesting a 64-bit processor and something called a "hybrid hard drive."

Who is even ready to get it? I know I just got nice and comfy with XP. Besides, will any of our programs work? Remember, DOS is probably completely out of the picture.

EDIT: here's a site: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windows...tarpc.mspx
I plan on using XP for the forseeable future.
If I can choose, xp would be my last MS OS, I'm going linux now...
Of cours in the future, if I get a job, I might use =>vista there,
but that will not be my problem.
I see no reason to upgrade to another bloated, slow MS OS. I'm thinking of going back to 2000 (currently on XP Pro).

The only reason I'm on XP is because I had to re-install my OS and couldn't find my 2000 CD :\
I'll probably upgrade to vista, but use the minimal GUI which featues the same GUI used since the days of 95. I don't need much more. The upgrade is simply for the purposes of applications, and not the system resource eating theme.
I could it seems (breifly scanning the specs on the site)....

But, while Vista does look better, XP w/ Nvidia effects is enough for me (visual wise... Nvidia makes it all trans where it seems Vista just does the borders.. =( )... I'd be more impressed if I could use a 3DS for a desktop background.... XD (If Vista can't already, I haven't read into it all...)

XP's my OS until it becomes Obsolete, which with what Windows Vista's suggesting, that won't take long...

Appropriate graphics memory for specified monitor resolutions expressed as total pixels (X dimension multiplied by Y dimension):

1.

64MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolution of 1,310,720 pixels (equivalent to 1280 x 1024) or less

2.

128MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 1,310,720 pixels and less than or equal to 2,304,000 pixels (equivalent to 1920 x 1200)

3.

256MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 2,304,000 pixels

ouch Big Grin, but I looove that high resolution.

It also looks like they've finally amped up IE to *almost* compete with FireFox, lol... Big Grin Watch firefox come out with a major update for the future 3 days after IE 7's release.

Just what I want when testing a new version of IE:

Lol, jeez. What is it gonna do? "We regret to inform you that every file in: "c:\my documents\important business papers\" has accidentally been erased. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused" Tongue

Hahah. Probably. I'll probably be doing my fricken schooling online and end up with a response like, "I'm sorry you upgraded. ECOT is still built for IE 6, deleting all files in C:\"

I'm getting some slowdowns though. If people want, I can post links of what it's like. The font looks different, and it misses a key I'm pressing every now and then... It is just a beta, but I definitely prefer firefox.
To be honest, no one can care less bout vista than i do now.
Its just a new candy box around same old **it.
