Hi, i started programming in qbasic when i was seven, and many very on and off years later, i decided to look back at it, and suprisingly im still pretty dang good, and maybe even a little better.

What this project is, is a random sentance generator. iIt's not your ordinary 50- liner though. this one is 140 lines and can read the custom words from a file. it also has the ability to choose a random sentance structure (only four so far, but feel free to go into the bas and make your own!). and the grammar is 8/10 accurate. not bad, eh?

The .bas file has alot of helpful commentary that should help you to make a new sentance structure, but the rest of the program is pretty knotted up.

download link: http://rapidshare.de/files/19877570/rndgen.zip.html

instructions: unzip, and put the folder in c:\, then read the readme file on how to modify the random words.

Have fun and post your comments!

hey, sounds like a cool project dude.

i downloaded the zip file and extractedall files to a directory.
but when i try to run rndgen.exe it tells me that
Quote:path not found in module rndgen at address 0555:051c
hit any key to return to system
personally, i dont know what it means but obviously that numbers hex, so someone with more experience might know.

next i went to look at the rndgen.bas file and all that was in it was
Quote:ü

all of the adv.txt, noun.txt, adj.txtetc files are intact though.

so, um, yeah, whats up with that?
dang, i don't know... me and my friend have been talking about this and he said i could just skip the c:\rndgen in my filepath and just put like noun.txt without any filepath.
look at the readme file and take suggestions from there in the "troubleshooting" area. i hope it can work for you.

edit:
another tip, is to set up a folder "skeleton" in your c:\ drive.
in it make rndgen, and inside that a folderr "backup" then just unzip and drag the files in their right places. otherwise just regularly extracting makes it overwrite itself because of two instances of each file. i guess back-up isn't needed, so if you wan't you can just extract and say yes to all, then put in "rndgen" and in c:\.

it's a little too complex, i might update it.

and i figured out your hex error. you have one of the numbers wrong, because i got one wrong and it gave me that same error. so try it again and recount the number of words in each file.
No offense but: Ugh, rapidshare? Are you kidding me? That whole site is a joke.

Try fileanchor.com
I absolutely hate rapid share, and thanks for the suggestion, just it can't upload. ZIPs
for now rapidshare will HAVE to do. And i have a version 1.1 which is less hasslesome, it dosen't have to be in the c:\, the only requirement is that the .txt's are in the same folder as the .exe. and the backup files were removed so you can easily extract it and pop it in a folder. PLUS even more random words!

instructions to find file: scroll down to bottom and click free, then on the next page type in the number in the box, click on the mirror closest to you, then click download from mirror. and they call that "one-click"!
If you register on FA you can upload zips and you get 20mb of personal storage.

Even though Rapidshare sucks, I would try to download it but the damn thing doesnt even work for me, it just continually says "Session invalid".
I have a similar project, but right now mine only has 1 sentance structure. I'll look at this tommorow, I think.
reminds me of a program i made once to generate random names.

That's where TIKITAC came from!

Very simple concept:

Randomly selected whether to begin with a vowel or consonant.

Switched between vowel and consonant every other letter for a random length!

so you can see why it came up with T I K I T A C...
I can't believe someone would think that rapidshare is better than fileanchor... yikes I hope Zap and Sumo don't see this thread...

No limit. Nevertheless even we have to clean up our drives from time to time, so we will delete files that have not been accessed for 30 days or longer. Premium-users don't have to worry about this. We NEVER delete your files until you cancel your membership.
bullshit

bullshit X 2
Quote: • Can I delete my uploaded files?
Sure you can! After your upload, you will get two links. The download-link, which you give to everyone you want, and a delete-link, which you keep for yourself. Just click on the delete-link and your file will be deleted immediately.

hell, I have 170MB (and 9 KB) of storage for free just because I jumped thru some hoops. –er, did some contests. The most unlikely free upgrade to win was finding a picture of mike. Little did he know of my elite clicking and searching skillz. And lack of any thing else to do. As yes, I come from a long line of superior hunting skillige cavemen. It’s what helped our genes survive all these years. Yesterday I killed a squirrel. With my hands.
I pity sumo and zap.

I really really really doubt that Wink
