Well I have been gone for awhile, but I'm trying to come back anyways! I recently upgraded my computer... and I mean, I really did a doosey of an upgrade.
First off, an MSI K8n Neo4-F motherboard, with a 939 (AMD 64) socket and a PCI Express 16x slot...
then, an Athlon 64 3200+ Venice (~2.2 Ghz, O/C to 2.5ghz)
finally, an Nvidia 7900GT
Once I worked out the kinks that come with (basically) a new computer, I finally sat down and tried to play a game, namely, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. my old 6600GT could handle it just fine on medium-low settings, so I decided to just say "what the hell" and crank all the settings as high as they possibly could go. Oh my. It worked. It was smooth--like buttah. I've never had a computer that's better than my brother's, but now I do! Haha! It's amazing. So keep making those graphic-intensive games, developers, because I'm ready! It makes me really happy, because Supreme Commander is coming out in early 2007 and I was afraid I wouldn't have the horsepower to play it, but I should be okay... Supreme Commander, for those who don't know, is the "Spiritual successor to Total Annihilation." It got "Best Strategy Game of E3 2006" as rated by GameSpy, so go check it out!
Well that's kind of where I've been. Who knew that graduating could be so lucrative that I can buy kickass computer components and still have a bunch of money left over? I love graduation now... I think I'm going to do it again soon :rotfl:

you know what I read that really kicks ass? They are making Fallout 3 based on the oblivion engine.
I loved oblivion, I just got sick of its setting after a while, this should reinvigerate what is a very sweet engine.
How is that 7900GT? The computer I am going to get soon will have two in SLI, but I wasnt overly sure wether I should ditch it and just get one uber-card.
I suppose if it can play Oblivion at full settings it must be decent. Is it the 256 or 512mb one?
it's the 256 one, but when you look at graphics cards you want to look at the other numbers, the GPU speed and the bus speed, that tells you the power of the card. A jump from 256 to 512 *would* increase performance, but not as much as say a 100mhz increase in GPU speed. I did research before I got my card, and I found out that the 7900GT is the best bang for the buck. The 7900XT is better, for sure, but for an extra like $150 I didn't think it was worth it. Overall it is a really good card, and should last you into the future for a good long time. I contemplated the SLI thing but I just decided to go with one... if I ever go SLI I'll just do another massive upgrade and get a dual core athlon 64

yeah, I know the memory size doesnt improve perfomance greatly, I was just interested in your opions on it.
And Ive already seen cards with 1Gb of memory now O.o heh, youd have to be stupid rich to bother getting one of those ATM. :)

I haven't really either, I just downloaded the demo a couple weeks ago and played it a bit...When I saw mention of it in my pc gamer mag my head exploded with how sweet it *could* be. Fallout has some really neat features that I think the oblivion engine will serve perfectly...I can't wait till it comes out.
