Well, I was reading Pritch's thread in the Debate forum, and I thought it would be cool if we had our own little poetry "competition". Here are the rules:

1) You can write in any style you like (including Haiku!)
2) You must write your poem based on a "spur"; for example, if I was given the spur "Falling cheese", I would write a poem that somehow featured falling cheese.
3) In order to find your spur, you must read the poem that came before yours and find the line or phrase that you like the best and use it as your spur.
4) You must use the spur as the title of your poem; that is, you must put it in quotes at the top of your post, before the poem itself.

Needless to say, I will start:

"Starfire"

Lying on our backs
our eyes no longer on each other,
but on the fading daylight.
Watching the sun dip ever lower;
the golden eye slowly closing
as if the world was falling asleep.
Waiting for the stars to come out
waiting in the long grass
our hands still tightly clasped.

The Sun falls below the horizon.
Deep within an inky blue sky
Tiny points of fire begin their silent vigil;
watching over the dark world below.

Looking at the stars;
entwined in each other’s arms,
the wonder of the moment
keeping us from moving.

Waiting for the moonrise;
our faces half hidden in the darkness,
the brightness of the Starfire
casting all other things into shadow.

A faint breeze stirs the trees;
ruffles the grass of our meadow.
A falling star crosses the sky,
its long trail vanishing in a flash.

Who knows how long we shall stay here;
watching the sky with tired eyes?
Then finally slipping into the peaceful slumber
of a summer’s night together:
your head on my chest,
my arm about your waist.

Who knows how long
the magic of Midsummer will last?
Who knows how long we shall last;
our bodies and minds joined,
our souls flying as one
unto the ending of the Starfire above us.
I dunno...no offense to anyone, of course, but I've always thought that poetry was for sucks and people with Profoundly Fuzzy Minds. Which is the title of my poem. Pardon the breakage of rules - but I couldn't find a phrase in your poem which would suit my poetic stylings.
It's best when sung quickly with a simple, rhythmic melody.

"Profoundly Fuzzy Minds"
There was a billy billy goat,
In whose silly silly mind was wrote,
A poem about a billy goat,
Which floated higher than all boats,
Even boats with big big peaks,
Couldn't beat this poem with leeks.

As big as big could get they were,
Those gaping leaks were for sure,
But even goosy goosy, her
She was smarter than the goat.

That blasted goat was a bit,
Fuzzy slow and full of it,
In fact never was there such a shit,
Who couldn't ever take a shit,
Because he was so full of shit,
The only word he knew was "shit".

Note: the following poem consists entirely of Haiku stanzas. Therefore, it has been inspired by 'Haiku'

Under the bright stars
A new force shall be woken
The truth shall be found.

Silver shines the moon
The water reflects the eyes.
The dark fire will wake.

What shall it tell us?
When it brings enlightenment
We shall know it all.

When it comes to us
A sound shall be heard by all
By that sound, we'll know.

The sound dips and rises
Beautiful tones fill the air
Lighting fires within.

The coming will bring
All that we could hope for
In a brand new world.

From the dark ashes
The new order shall arise
As if from the dead.

When the bright dawn comes
True form shall be revealed
By the golden light.

Warm light will come through
The dawn will finally come
We will see the light.

The Sun flares yellow
Lighting the cool and crisp air
Far above the clouds.

Fog coats the valleys
Of those who refuse our love
Still the darkness spreads.

Yet still we shall win
There shall be peace on our Earth
War shall be no more.

All nations shall merge
Our new dominion shall rule
Over all that lives.

For millenia
We shall rule all the world
All will be happy.

When the outsiders
Come to destroy our world
We shall be ready.

We shall defeat them
And all that they will stand for
Then they shall join us.

We shall always want
More peoples to join our race
Thus, we'll never die.

This dream may seem far
Yet it is here before us
Reach out to touch it.

The sun dips below
The horizon glows blood-red
Stars begin to sing.

Think on this, young one
Remember the dreams of old
They still carry truth.
Sun

In the Winter we all go Native,
while in the Summer we all go Crazy.
We're calm in the Spring and Fall,
which seem to end at dusk,
fading at dawn.

Summer clouds are the life giving light,
our shield from the sun.
Winter stars that fall so cold,
only to melt in our sorrow.

Yet Spring and Fall remain silent,
having no fault,
yet so much beauty.
The warning signs perhaps,
of our coming misfortunes.

Winter Stars

Gazing over the white plains
the moonlight glinting off the tiny crystals
the shards of light burning away the sullen clouds
opening to the pale fire growing in the sky.

A cloud exerts its final revenge
the moon is obscured by the white darkness.
The crystal flames in the sky
burn with an ever-present blue flame.

Whenever shall the summer return?
When shall the sun light all the world
but the stark rocks and ice
of the high North and South?
When shall the dark rainclouds come back
to me, fiery light of Darkness;
let your power wash upon me
and break like the sea upon rocks.
Let your wind and rain and snow and hail
fall upon us and obscure
those tiny, glinting eyes;
those Stars that haunt me so.

moonlight -

The beaches of yesterday,
your hair and your skin.

Your eyes dance like fires,
and I'm happy within.

You smile like a candle.
The waves are whispering:

Hold her forever,
And I said, "Yeah, I will."

The moonlight is shining,
The waters go still.
