For awhile now, I've been putting this off, my CMD.EXE program has not been working. It ignores commands like ping, netstat, and other simple ones. :-?
Is there any way for me to get a fresh copy of it, or do I need to *gulp* reformat my computer. :crying: (I have no reformat cds/windows xp cds, and I really don't want to drop $100 bucks for one.)
p.s. Does anyone know how this could've happened? So I can avoid doing it again.

Here are some before & after screenshots of me trying to get the netstat command to work:

That has nothing to do with cmd.exe - make sure the location that netstat etc. are in is in your PATH environment variable (X:\Windows\System32\ for netstat and similar). Make sure you update your virus and ad/spyware scanners and run them.
Ah, that's better. I can now do (most) of the commands, but I have to add a .exe to all the commands .

Make sure your PATHEXT environment variable has these in it:
.COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH
The EXE, COM and BAT are the most important, but if you are missing those, you may be missing the others.
