As some people here may already know, I've been home-schooled for most of my life. I've been to elementary school on-and-off, years ago, but never high school.
For various reasons, I'll be starting my first run at high school this Monday, where I'll be entering grade 11. I've decided to go because a) it will smooth the university application process, b) it's such a universal experience, I figure I should see what the fuss is about, and c) I feel I need a formal teacher for certain subjects. I'll be taking math ("Functions and Relations"), physics, chemistry, and English.
Seeing as most of the people here have already experienced grade 11...well, any suggestions or insights, anyone?
I'm the opposite of your situation. I've gone to school my whole life and had left right before highschool. The fuss is social stuff. If social stuff matters to you, go to highschool. If you're like me and you are a piece of ice who wishes not to melt in that warm social environment, stay in your deep underground cave where no one else dares pry.

A Real School:
- People
- Parties
- Girls
- Other fun stuff

Homeschool:
- Work at a pace beyond those neandor..whatever those damn cavemen are, if you wish.
- Flexible Hours
- One or two other things. Oh yeah, you can be alone Big Grin

Me switching to internet schooling basically allowed me to get rid of the bad and let in some good. I have no need or desire for social things, so like, yeah. I mean, what's the point of parties for someone like me? There is none ^_^;;
Yes, I have to agree that the only reason that home schooling would be different is the social factor, and also the fact that there are specific teachers. But its not all parties and being hooliganz, theres lots of cool things that come from groups of people, such as...

Computer Tech Club!

Yeah, you can't even write your letters with the proper spatial orientation. Public schoolers!

I've been homeschooled my entire life, excepting college of course. I have never had a reason to regret it.

I used to pride myself on being antisocial - whenever anyone asked me if I miss socializing I'd go on a long rant about how I don't want friends. Only in the last couple of years have I begun to thaw a bit - though I certainly don't intend to completely melt (good analogy, btw). I can't stand those "omg lets go to the mall" idiots. But I do see the value in having one or two buddies. Of course I already have a lot of friends I've known for years on the internet. I hate when people treat antisocials as if they have some sort of disfunction: they can't understand that to some, friends are nothing but a bother.
Of course then there's members of the opposite sex...and I don't believe in purely platonic relationships. Though I doubt I'll find a girlfriend who shares my outlook. How many teenage girls don't believe in morality and large social circles? Here's a great pickup line: "hey, baby, though I know it's only chemical and electrical signals, I think you're hot...".
I agree with most everyone else, pretty much. MOST of high school is about developing / experiencing social situations. However, I didn't really care about making friends, either. I made friends, yes, but I didn't go out of my way to hang out with them. I did find a girlfriend who shares my opinions about social situations (and how I HATE stupid people)... so they exist.

I skipped out of high school my senior year and took classes at the University instead. I was still in choir at the high school because it's the one thing that I participated in in high school, but other than that I severed ties with the institution. You'll probably be like me, and appreciate University life more. But hey, it'll be a good experience for ya.
