3D in QuickBasic - wildcard - 01-26-2003

3D in QuickBasic. It is something you hardly see. However it is possible. Once Enhanced Creations created their RTEngine; a well-known raycaster. I mutated that program to my own preferences, and the results you can see on the following adress: http://www.nebulasoftware.tk. Please take a look, and see what the possibility's of first-person shooters in quickbasic are!

Hey, looks very cool. But I have one question: Why does it need MSVBVM60.DLL??? I think only progs coded with MS VB or MS VC++ need this file to run. So, why do you need it???

3D in QuickBasic - toonski84 - 01-27-2003

because of ds4qb.

what i dont get is, what's the big deal? idkfa. atte1-3. that wyte house game. also what i dont get is, is did they modify the actual rte engine or did they just make a game from it? and it's not 3d if it's the rte engine. its raycasted, which is just a projected 2d map. blitz's quake renderer, atte3 & idkfa are all true 3d engines, not to mention build99 and other fine 3d engines.

Joe, are you sure that IDKFA and ATTE aren't raycasters?

And if you're talking about raycaster-based games, I'd stick with MUX. That's the best one that I've seen. Honestly.

Serge: If you have Windows XP the problem is with DS4QB2. It doesn't like WinXP Sad

HD: Where to get that engine? Is it really a usable engine with source code or just some demo "hey, mira que bien programo"?

3D in QuickBasic - Hexadecimal Disaster - 01-27-2003

No, Nath. It's a full game. Complete, but no source code... Tongue

I'll quote the whole post at qb45.com, since this time it really deserves it:

Quote:MUX - propably the best 3d-shooter ever made in QB available for download at:

http://www.tcdn.teiher.gr/upload/viewfiles.asp?catid=17

be sure to download all four files (MUX 1/3, MUX 2/3, MUX 3/3 and MUX Font Set) and UnZip them to same directory...

And no, I'm not working for Pieslice Productions. [Image: biglaugh.gif] Good things must be promoted. [Image: xyxthumbs.gif]

Yeah, I've seem MUX and it looks impressive!!! But its not a 3d engine. its a Raycaster. Where as idkfa(can't speak of atte3) is a full 3d engine. I've seen the polygons... ;*)

Actually, both(Raycasting and a full 3d vector engine) ain't that hard to code. For raycasters try Joe Kings impressive tutorial(I made my first and last ray engine using his tut) for a vector engine, the problem would stem from making the model and the maps itself. For BSP trees, the actual render is not the main problem, its the Node(+,-) tree making.
BTW, BSP trees aren't limited to 3d. ;*)
