3D in QuickBasic - toonski84 - 01-27-2003 yes, idkfa and atte1-3 use polygons. take a peek at the texture distortion and it's pretty clearly dqb's sucktastic textured polygon code. besides, he also told me. and mux is very impressive, one of the best raycasters i've seen. shame the screen is so small i also recall a decent qbfps where you were a rabbit killing navy soldiers or something, but i dont remember what it was... 3D in QuickBasic - Hexadecimal Disaster - 01-27-2003 Let's go for parts: 1. Rel: in which part of my previous post it's possible to read that MUX is 3D? Stop drinking when you're at work, bruddah. 2. Yep. BSP trees aren't limited to 3D: DOOM's engine uses extensively that. 3. Toonski, toonski... you never fail to amuse me: "dqb's sucktastic textured polygon code". I'll carve that on a bronze plaque. 3D in QuickBasic - wildcard - 01-27-2003 Why get so hung up on what the engine is? I played Nebula's game for a while yesterday and its fun, a lot of rips in it but they're stated. The engine gives some freedom, look up/down for targetting(3d freedom). Its just a difficult game, but I haven't played many easy catch the flag games then ;-) 3D in QuickBasic - toonski84 - 01-27-2003 well, wildcard, i really dont care except for the hype that's in the post. it's just a raycaster, and one they didnt program at that. i recall nebula making one on their own with ugl and i wonder what happened to that (if they rereleased that i'd be more impressed, even if it wasnt as good). "3d freedom" is a hack in raycasting that involves shifting the pixels up or down. you can't look up or down, and it becomes exponentially more distorted as you do. furthermore it was a hack already in rte. now i dont care that they made a game with it. in fact i'm glad they did, but just dont go around saying stuff like "3d in qb? some thought it impossible! but lo and behold we are revolutionary!" if they didnt modify the engine at all. (yeah, i know that's the form in which it was given to you). to nebula: i like your game, i honestly do. just cut with the "see the future in qb first person shooters!" 3D in QuickBasic - na_th_an - 01-27-2003 Quote:to nebula: i like your game, i honestly do. just cut with the "see the future in qb first person shooters!" Well, it *IS* a 1st person shooter . In the game docs, they say that it is a raycaster and not a 3D game. The problem is with the advertisement, like the posts in this forum or in their homepage. The game is pretty good. It has many features that most QB games don't have. The tutuorial mode is well scripted and the game runs smoothly, the collision detection works fine, also. What I dislike is the graphics in the game... I won't speak about "good" or "bad", they are just ugly to me... The presentation is quite poor. If this game had better menues/intros/outtros it would look more professional. 3D in QuickBasic - wildcard - 01-27-2003 I finished the game, played the tutorial and both CTF games. Its loads of fun, although it could use a little bit more polish.. but not much. Note to self: never title any game 3d even if it is ;-) || I know what you mean by it not being true 3d but, after all you can't get true 3d on a 2d monitor :rotfl: 3D in QuickBasic - Hexadecimal Disaster - 01-27-2003 Heheheh... Following that criteria, this generation had not seen yet any 3D game at all. (VR devices aren't true 3D too) About the lack of polish... it's just a demo. It's understandable. 3D in QuickBasic - wildcard - 01-27-2003 Quote:Heheheh... Following that criteria, this generation had not seen yet any 3D game at all. (VR devices aren't true 3D too) True and true. 3D Gaming is much easier and has been around before computers.. its called "real life" or something, I'm trying to search google for more information, but its something like sport or monopoly or something.. I'll get back to you with more info later :rotfl: 3D in QuickBasic - Hexadecimal Disaster - 01-27-2003 Yeah, but often 3D games needs some kind of specialized equipment, somewhat difficult to obtain for some: friends. Sad but true. 3D in QuickBasic - toonski84 - 01-28-2003 well, nate, i wasnt referring to the technical aspect of it being a 3d game, it was to his sounding like a goddamned infomercial over an engine he didnt program, just built a game with. |
