RAM compatibility question - j2krei08 - 01-13-2006

I want to put RAM from one computer to another, but one is DD and one is SD.

Going from 128mb (the DD) and adding 32mb (the SD)

Are they compatible? How can I tell?

So it's a size problem? I thought it just wouldn't be the right speed. Oh well.

Simple way to tell if you can jam it in your computer - look at your machine specs and see what memory adapter you have(this is the letters PC followed by about four numbers). Check the memory you purchased, if the numbers are the same, you should be able to put it in your computer without complications. Also, you need to know your processor speed. If it says the memory requires a 1 Ghz processor, you can get away with around 200 Mhz leeway, I had gotten away with doing this with no complications.

Even if it would fit, it wouldnt work..

End of story..

They are not compatible, in any way.

It depends on the motherboard.

My old Pentium MMX had 4 SIMM EDO banks and a big DIMM bank. I had 64 Mb taking the 4 SIMM EDO banks and I added a 64 Mb chip to the DIMM bank and I got 128 Mb.

The DIMM chip was a 133 Mhz one, and my bus speed was 66 Mhz, so I thought it wouldn't work, but it did. At 66 Mhz, but it worked. I used that system (which happened to be stable) like 2 years or so.

Holy shit! I just installed a 16 mb edo ram on an SD slot and it worked. POST even reports it correctly. But this is just a test. I have an extra 16 mb sdram to add to the 32 a friend gave me for this computer I'm seting up to be used on the boondocks. :*)

I have mixed SIMM EDO and SIMM together and it worked as well Tongue
