I am 48 years old beginer.
I can do "hello World" in several languages,or draw a circle, but that is all.
Question:Should I start with qbasic ang go step by step and leave freebasic alone,or do the same with fb.?
Pick one or both? At this point the differences between the 2 are only disturbing me.
Any advice appreciated.

You'll probably want FB. You can get more help online with that, plus it's not of dubious legality.

Go with FreeBASIC.

harsszeg,

I would go with whichever one you feel you can learn the most from.
FB is a fine programming langauge; However, if QB is easier for you to understand and/or follow, I'd go with that.
You can always switch to FB at a later date.
The two have their differences, but they are also somewhat similar.

So in short, I'd go with whichever one you feel you would be most likely to understand what the commands actually do, get comfortable with it, and then start on the other langauge.

Either way, in the end it's all basic information anyway!

Dadsherm:

I like your considered reply the best, especially since there are so many tutorials of a low level and simple nature existing for QuickBASIC. Me, I would recommend a beginner to go with QuickBASIC, as the learning language for any beginner. Maybe that's because I'm a simple-minded person.

If QB was so good, m$ would be capitalizing off of it ^^.
