It's a neat little idea that I thought would yield some interesting results... The mission is to make an animated RPG game sprite, that shows all four directions. It can be from 10x10 to as large as you can make it. This contest is open to everyone, and I'll be the judge (along with anyone else who volunteers)
It will be judged by the following:
Look: How the sprite's details were handled. Shadowing, shading, lighting, all of that. Only put in what your style needs however, it's indeed possible for a completely unshaded sprite to beat one with shadowing, just as long as it looks better in the end.
Animation: How well animated, and smooth the sprite moves.
Directional Consistency: Does the sprite retain the same look in all four directions? Or does it look like four different people each time?
Design and Originality: If the design itsself is really cool looking, it would win some points here. Just make sure it looks well enough so people can tell what it is...
I plan for the contest to be over by the end of next month. Hopefully I won't forget it exists by then, but if enough people join in, that shouldn't even be an issue...
