Yeah, and IBM has an LZW patent too, but Unisys was the only company to try and score royalties from little developers. With the patent null in the US, Canada, and Japan, Unisys will never try and demand royalties again. The last time they ever did was nearly 7 years ago.

Hell, it's more dangerous to use JPEG than GIF, Fogent's still out there suing people. But yeah, I guess if you're really namby pamby about formats you wouldn't use either.
