I don't really like frills on software. If I had the option to switch to Plan 9 and use Rio without sacrificing some more modern things I need like a modern web browser I would. That's why Vista and OS X make me through up - they look more like toys than operating systems.

.... And old MS-DOS codes that were only 640kb? You remember those are like the lowest res, slower, aplications right? .... Most people like flashy curves, clean looking stuff.... Why do you think we have glowing cases, sexy looking cars, weird looking furniture..

Course you have those who like plain white cases, drive the old Model-T's, and have very plain furniture, but not everyone is like that....

You have it reversed in some places - plain furniture is in. Fancy furniture is out. I don't think you see too many people with couches modeled like thrones outside of yourt granny's house. Plain cases are also quite in. I don't think that Macs(except for the PowerMac and Mac Pro), iPods, or the VAIO have silver crested lining, neon lights, and roman gods carved into their cases, huh?

Very few people are using java as a main language. Java is mainly used for plug-ins and such, right? Java can't make programs, it doesn't have a compiler (in most people's definition.) It has to run on it's own virtual machine, you can't make a .app or .exe file with it. C++ isn't that old, I think it was first used extensively to create the neXtSTEP programs.

Developers flocked to Java. They say it improved on the downfalls of C in every way. Oh, and NeXTSTEP use Objective C, at least according to wikipedia.
