DI is not good for recording guitars...There are many reasons for this, and (in a studio) the main one is the quality of the sound. When you mic an amp with an XLR mic, then you get a much higher quality of sound that DI with a standard jack. A mic'ed amp also outputs ambient noises, picked up by the mic adding to the authenticity of the sound.
