Light cycles are vehicles that trail a wall of light behind them. Contestants competing against each other race on an enclosed grid, and try to outlast everybody else. Players initially start at opposing sides of the grid, racing towards the center. Light-cycles can turn on a dime, but only at 90 degrees. The light-wall a light-cycle trails behind remains until the match is over (some variants modify how long the light-walls remain, but standard light-cycle racing dictates they never disappear. For this contest, I'll leave that choice up to the registrants.). A player dies - literally - if their light-cycle slams into either the grid boundary, or their own or another's light-wall. Last player to remain is the winner.
This contest is about creating a game based on competitive light-cycle racing. In essense, then, it's a "racing sim" contest, but registrants may include whatever gameplay enhancements they see fit. Note, the game must support both single-player and multi-player gameplay, so at least some form of rudimentary AI must be devised.
