Yeah, this is a problem with the NT based consoles since the default buffers are 300. What I did was right click the title bar, select Properties from the menu and the Layout tab. You can change the default settings there. I changed it to 80 by 40. You also need to uncheck the Quick Edit checkboxes under the Options tab so the mouse will work. Since you can save the settings for future sessions, you only have to do this once.
One suggestion for the windows version: Putting a little Close button up in the top right corner--Turbo Vision style--would be nice. Good job on this.
