Limitations? what limitations?

go find the compiler source, or rewrite the 1400 routines involved in compiling and i'll give you a cookie.

if someone just found the source (Bill Gates says they release their source by request..) and made it link to an external macro patcher....

1400!!!!!???? *backs away*

Was it written in C++, or straight in ASM?

if someone tells me it was written in machine code, I'll scream.

many of the routines were written in asm. at least that's a minimum, being the number of routines in bcom45.qlb. unfortunately, that asm was written unoptimized and for an 8086, so it's not blazingly fast (though it might be blazingly slow).

Here...knock yourself out.

(btw, this is the source to QBasic, not QuickBasic. But since QBasic was based on QuickBasic, extracting the compiler code from the interpreter should be a trivial task. Heck, it's even easier than making cows from hamburgers.)

*sigh*, you'll get nothing from that source, unless you want the actual source code for a slow print routine in asm or something. it doesnt compile, or any of that, it loads those routines into memory and calls them by which statement/function it interprets.

and for glenn, because he's not awake enough to be a bored nitpicker:
microsoft calls its free version of quickbasic 4.5: qbasic 1.1. Qbasic was made after quickbasic, and therefore cannot be 1.1 if it had the same product name, thus: it's qbasic, and not quickbasic.

EDIT:

qbasic was released with dos 5 and after, and was free because it was incapable of compiling, bc.exe was not included, only the ide. ergo (tee hee hee), since it cannot compile, you can't get the actual compilation code from it, that's like getting the compilation code from qb.exe (because that's all qbasic.exe, qb.exe with a less capable version of brun45.lib in the exe)

I wrote that some time ago...

Someone should write it in stone...

1982 -> Basic Compiler (bascom)
1985 -> Quick Basic 2.0/2.1 ...
1986 -> Quick Basic 3.0
1987 -> Quick Basic 4.0, 4.5
1988 -> PDS
1992 -> QBasic 1.0
1993 -> QBasic 1.1
