If you're going to buy a new modem, and don't want to switch to broadband, why the hell wouldn't you get a 56k?

Well, I bought a 56k, but the stupid thing didn't work with winxp, so I dusted off an old external 56k modem, but it doesn't connect at anything higher than 28.8 - probably because of poor phone line conditions, because I live right next door to Courage the Cowardly Dog. Tongue

Yeah Ninkazu, it's not nice to flaunt the posting rules like that, this is a family forum.

I know a friend who only just in the last few weeks has moved off a 28.8K. And my brother's friend has a 33.6K, so there is plenty of slow stuff out there especially because some people can't affort it.
