Meaningless posts like "Ooooooh", "Aaaaah", "Ummmm", etc. should be eliminated. For one, they clutter up the thread of a given flow of posts, as well as taking post storage space. In addition, they permit some users to increase their post count with no real contribution whatsoever to any thread.
Many of these exclamatory posts cause others to ask the originator what he meant. In many instances, no explanation is given. In other cases these two members go off on a tangent.
If you want to use an exclamatory remark, fine, but back it up and include something relevant to the thread.
I suggest that a post should contain some minimum number of characters and/or words to qualify for being a post, and an error message issued accordingly just like when no text is contained in the body of the post. These limits could be established by the Administrator or Webmaster.

To fool the char counter you could just make a "WOW" with like
30 'o's in...
However I get your point but if I just want to say that I agree
to somebody other's post i post for example "Amen!" and I think
it's a little like saying that people shouldn't vote unless
they explain why, still I get your point but I don't think this is
a really post count fixated forum with a lot of spammers.
(OK, ok, there is a lot of members posting off-topic things but
it's like a normal conversation...)

About that, wildcard (the webmaster) said looooong before this forum was attacked and lost almost everything: "Jocke, count post isn't what matters.
Content over quantity" (or something as elocuent as that) Anyways, some people seems more "responsive" than others, and you should habituate to that behavior.

True, true and true. The latter is one of the things that make this forum interesting, IMHO.

Some people don't have the brain -or don't want to use it at the moment- to generate more elaborated answers. Sometimes even an elaborated answer isn't necessary at all. All things are relative, mind you.

As previously mentioned, that feature could be defeated easily. Also, you can't post when no content is provided, that's already done. And...

People who do post things like "ooooh" and "aaaaahhh" are the kinds of people who crave attention, not the kind of people who want to cheat the forum. if you simply ignore these posts, those people will go away.

I sort of agree with you Moneo, but at the same time I don't. HD is right, the fact that threads deal with a topic and then branch out is, IMHO, a good thing, because if this forum was entirely about QBasic then it simply wouldn't be fun to come here. These forums are the reason many people continue to program in QBasic, and taking the fun out of them would ruin it for many.
At the same time, very short posts may add clutter, but sometimes that is all that needs to be said (eg "Yes" answer to a question). And they don't nessecarily add too much to post storage space - I run a phpBB forum and the backup size is directly proportional to the length of the post, not as much the number of posts (which makes me wonder: should this post be banned? :wink: )
There's my view, unessecary as it is.
