If only Microsoft said for once: "fine, we're sick and tired of QBasic, we're gonna release the source to the community, they can try to improve it if they wish..."
Wouldn't that be awesome?
I supposes apart from that someone could try to first clone and then improve QBasic, has it ever been tried?

I think that's first "laugh" and then "ignore".

Call me stupid but I seem to remember that somebody on either this site or qb45.com posted a link to the actual source for qb45.com awhile ago... I downloaded it and looked at it and it seemed to be it to me (though I never tried compiling it...)... Maybe someone else remembers this?

It was the source code to QBasic 1.0.
(which was based on QuickBasic 4.5, but since there's no compiler there's not much you can do with it. Even if you had the source code to the compiler, I doubt it would be that useful.)

Well... it was just an optimistic thought...
