MIDI Devices
#1
Is it possible to download more midi devices? I have a Yamaha one and a RipTide one... can you download more or is it embedded within hardware?

One night I had a dream where I was breaking balls. The next morning, BALLSBREAKER was born.

Midi devices you can download are called software wavetable synthesizers. Using one will make midis sound much more realistic if you've got an old computer or an old/crappy sound card, but it won't be much of an improvement if you've already got a modern sound card that supports hardware wavetable (like the Creative SoundBlaster AWE32/AWE64/Live/etc)

What operating system and sound card do you have?

Oh... when I heard 'midi devices', I was thinking like the Twelve Tone Virtual Piano... now THAT was nifty.

Yeah, you can get extra software wavetables. My SBLive has support for loading different midi sound banks.

Or you can use DirectMusic's DLS system (Downloadable Sounds)

LoL sorry for posting late, I forgot that I posted this in this forum. Well, I am using WIN XP and I only have a GS Wavetable Synth or something like that, and there is a 'reverbration' (i think) where (i have a prog called SBAND that utilizes the keyboard as an actual MIDI keyboard, q - p are white notes, and then [ ] <enter> num pad... etc and so you push a button and it plays the corresponding sound) you push the button and it plays the sound for about 1.5 seconds instead of however long you hold down the key. On my WIN 98 compy it doesn't do that... so ok, next question is: Where can I find a 'wavetable' ?

No, I don't think you understand... This is just a MIDI device driver, so it would change the sounds that you play with a midi player. The 'sound library' essentially. However, with the use of QMIDI and a MIDI recorder you definatley COULD produce sounds in QBASIC.
