if 12mhz can run a game like those in the neogeo.... Why does a semi-3D game (like Diablo) need something like a 500mhz pII and a 333mhz gfx card?

Jeez... such power out of such small numbers Tongue

I said 4x a NeoGeo mainly 'cause NeoGeo's motorola is from 2nd Generation and this is from 3rd Generation, which implies a heavy reconstruction and better architecture, which can boost performance 2x.

Those consoles are that powerful with such low specs 'cause they are not all-purpose machines, but they are focused on games. For example, a CPS2 can draw a basic sprite (16x16) in a clock cycle, but it goes nut drawing a single pixel, so it is not suited for 3D in any form.

Answer: OS.

But dang!!! This is a good buy!!!!

And those consoles mostly use direct hardware rendering. ;*)

I'm totally making a 32bit system later. I know it's 50 times as hard, but god damn it, I'm doing it!

You're 6 posts away from 1337.

Anyway, if you want one, send me enough money to compensate for parts and shipping. I'll count the labor as free, since this shit is fun. I'll send you the first one though, since the second would be so much better Tongue

So are you serious? I'd really like to make something like that, but really the XGS book doesn't go over it, so I'm not sure. If only Nek were still here, I could ask him about "The Goat" but sadly, he is not Sad

I think it would be really hard turn the XGS in a 32 bits machine. You'll have to base upon the XGS to build one from scratch. For processors, I'd recommend the 68060, a great 32 bits processor which is very similar.
