...there are hosting packages that *dont* allow javascript? that's gotta take some effort on part of the host Smile

hrm...I think I will set up my free hosting service for QB sites. Sorry Seph, no offense to you, but I have my own server network of P4/3GHz machines on dual OC-12 lines and plenty of bandwidth to spare, with all the normal toys (mysql, php, perl, fpe, ftp access, you name it) that any good webhost comes with. It is a unix environment (red hat linux) so there is no VB-ASP support (like anyone uses this crap anyways when you can use PHP which is FAR superior and even easier to use). I will set this service up this afternoon when I get home (at college right now, waiting to go to Management 201).

Yes...I own my own hosting company. Smile

But you can't have one. Yes, you. Tongue

Unlimited bandwidth? Yeah, ok, whatever Tongue sorry, but I don't think hosting on a cable modem counts as legitimate hosting, especially when I have a 2GBit connection Wink No one can seriously offer unlimited bandwidth, and if they do, then it's on a tiny-ass connection with severe limits. And besides...no one needs 1GB worth of space, unless they plan on offering ISO downloads of their games...or warez.

I'm still toying with the idea of setting this up. My gf is advising me against it because she thinks I am being too benevolent, which may be very true, so right now I'm not sure whether or not I want to set this up or not. But I'll let y'all know soon, if anyone is interested.

Oracle...try setting up a webhost with unlimited bandwidth on a decent sized connection (like...oh, let's say... a dual OC-12) and you will quickly go out of business, almost as fast as you went into it. And it takes time to establish a company, you can't just whip up a server in your basement and say "hey look I got a company now" and proclaim you have a company or else you will get busted for fraud.

Whatever man, go right ahead. Both of you, I don't care. I was only doing this as a project and a favour to some friends... So if you want to compete with all those FTPing sites that kickass, go right ahead. All I'm really completing with is geocities, I guess.

Seriously, I could offer unlimited bandwidth. But read on...

Oracle...if your webhost offers unlimited bandwidth, you are well-advised to get a new one. And quickly. No legitimate webhosting company can offer unlimited bandwidth. They have to pay for bandwidth, and in turn, you have to pay for bandwidth. "Unlimited" just doesn't exist when it comes to legitimate hosting. And by "legitimate", I mean an actual server network with high-capacity lines in a protected environment, not some yokel in the basement of his parent's home with a cable modem. Sorry dude...I've been in this business way too long to be fooled by claims of "unlimited bandwidth".

You still don't understand.... my webhost is run by my cousin, thus I have approx. 600GB to play with, and unlimited bandwidth (within reason, but we have a terabyte to play with before he has to pay Smile)... you see what I mean?

Oh, and ps: the server ain't in a basement or anything like that. They have a direct connection into citylink, a fibreoptic cable that transports most of the internet traffic around NZ Tongue
