Yes, Terry my friend, you need to learn more then what Ryan may have taught you before you go after any projects beyond a "Hello world."

By putting a picture of a gun to his head, you mean.
Peace cannot be obtained without war. Why? If there is already peace, it is unnecessary for war. If there is no peace, there is already war."

When arguing about "GOTO considered harmful" and ""GOTO considered harmful" considered harmful" we always tend to repeat, and repeat, and repeat once and again what we have said a thousand times. Someone should include this whole discussion in the FAQ and in subsequent argues we could just link to the FAQ just to save Wildcard's space Wink

J/K. GOTOs are not bad for experienced programmers, but are evil for beginners.

And, again (like I said five times) not indenting is dull. I saw Aga's C code non indented and I wanted to cry. OCCC anyone? Wink

What's OCCC?

Spaces are a waste of bytes.

Well, I am entering this project into science fair, and worst of all, this is not even the entire project. But, there is one thing going for me out of this; it looks complicated to people who know nothing about QBASIC. I figure that at fair the judges will see that my program works and all and then be like "wow"! This programmer knows what hes doing. And I am going into a mathematical catagory, so I should be pretty safe. I tried reading some books on QBASIC and all, but I thought that I knew what I was doing anyway. And, hopefully, if there is a judge out there who knows QBASIC, they will just look at the length and go for effort. Anywayz, back to the program. Before I was even finished with everything on there a little window appeared telling me that the module level was to big or something like that. So I had to start another program that actually analyzis the program. If you want I could print it here too. Thats funny, I thought that when I posted it the whole program didn't appear... it does work though right? LOL. I just tried to open it with Wordpad, and its coming all deformed, so if you would like to see a copy of the second part just send me an email at crewt@studentmail.brevard.k12.fl.us , this mail is monitored so, if you could please keep everything school apropriate. Thanks alot, for all the friendly criticism Smile.

you need to make arrays for your program!!!!!

Maybe you can learn from my younger brothers experience:
My younger brother presented an RPG he wrote in qbasic at the science fair. It was a console style tile based RPG, but it was still pretty sophisticated and large - over 47 pages. He won the local competition easily.

At the next level up each category had it's own panel of judges, and the computer science judges were fairly knowledgeable. More importantly: they had a bias against qbasic. They encouraged him to look into more modern languages like Visual Basic.

He ended up losing to a reindexing algorithm and a GPA calculator. The first one simply took an array and shuffled it around according to another array, it was in C++ and under 2 pages. There was nothing special about it, it did it the obvious way. The second one, calculated your grade point average (GPA), based on your grades as inputted. In Visual Basic, less than 5 pages. The code was mostly for the flashy interface with lots of annoying animated images, the part that actually calculated the GPA was only a few lines.

There were other factors - the judges didn't take it seriously because it was a game. He took the wrong approach to presenting it, rather than describing it's features he should have shown them that his source code was far more interesting in terms of use of algorithms, etc (which it was).

I guess my point is that most judges won't care about how long it took you, or how huge or complicated it is. And there are some judges who will look down their noses at qbasic. And presentation is very important.
