Draft forum rules
#41
That sort of stuff you say, about people getting angry at posting style, and double posting will of course be dealt with now, because the admin will be around more to delete double posts etc. Anyway, rules 1,2,3 and 5 deal with posting content, and I think they cover it quite well. What else needs to be put in there?

(Remember: don't be fooled into thinking there are way too many rules on posting style, just because two of the four sections are on signatures/avatars).

Yeah, of course, but, I wonder...

What's the deal with double posting?

I mean, why is it so bad? Is it that that way you add figures to your post count? And who cares? Is post count important? I did not know I had more than 3,000 posts until someone told me at MSN messenger "hey nathe, you have over 3,000 posts!".

I think style is important, of course, but for the poster's sake. I mean, if you don't post in style, you'll get people not reading your post. I don't think that moderators have to look after the posters like if we were babies. But if you like this work and you're fine with it, well, do it. Personally I don't care if someone posts twice as long as he or she has something to say.

Btw, MVSC.ZIP has finished downloading. Time for a game Wink

Well... some people who are on 56K modems get annoyed when the same post appears twice...

When I've heard of double-posting referrenced that way, it usually means people who post once, then reply in the same thread with another post right after their first one instead of edit-adding it into the former.
earn.

Well perhaps I was wrong to close that topic. I just figure that replying to an already quite old topic to announce something new is pretty dumb especially if you want people to read it, but I guess you don't agree then.

Well, I won't be so quick to close topics...

Not the same post, I mean what seph says.

And whats this cribbing i hear about 56K modems? I used to use a 56K modem uptill a few weeks ago and loading this site isnt slow at all!
#48
I've also never really had a problem with 56k. I should also point out at this point that when I use dialup at my dads house I only ever connect at a maximum of 26.4kbps.

This site is gzip compressed when a page is sent to a browser, that's why it is quite fast on a 56K, but remember it was aetherfox complaining about the speed when he's downloading other stuff at the same time...

But in terms of seph's meaning: I think we admin can just copy the second posts's contents and dump it into the first post, then delete the second post.

Thanks for all the input. I'm busy editing/rewording the draft rules and will repost them and hopefully get some more feedback then.
