Video Game Music
#1
Hey I thought this subject'd be all about music in games. Well, I guess not, so heres one about that. I write music, and evry1 I show it to says 'man thats good music... but it sounds like video game music.' fortunately im a qb programmer, so i can laugh and feel WAY less suicidal than any other aspiring music writer.. :-? ahem anyways I figured Id try to get some music out there. My only real problem is I cant find a web site w/out size limitations. I can e-mail you a song of mine, though if you wanna hear it. I bet you'd wanna use it in a game.. not trying to sound cocky but its good. Just post and ill email you a song, how about that? cool. later. btw that new staind song rules :bounce:

mostly midi... when i record, i record it right from the keyboard so i have files in wav format. but then i convert those to mp3s. i dont keep the files as midis, because my disk drive is broken. if you want i could send you an mp3, then if your interested i could use a friends computer to send you a midi file. btw, whats mod? is that like fm sound type thing? btw i was reading about ur mp3 'adventures' lol very nice

Mod is similar to MIDI, except each "note" uses an attached sample sound. It's much more flexible, because you can use any sound for notes. (Instead of being stuck with a generic wavetable).

My email addy is jdpetros***DIE SPAM DIE***@mtu.edu. Go ahead and send the MP3 if that's easiest.

(About the mp3 player: I nearly lost all the pictures when my hard drive crashed. Luckily I had uploaded them just weeks earlier for that post, so I was able to get them off the net. (At a lower resolution, but better than nothing.) All the picture links are probably dead now though, because my site moved...)

No, DOOM's music is MIDI-type. Mods are much older than DOOM (from the Amiga era...).

("DOS4GW game day"? I don't know what that's supposed to mean. DOS4GW is Tenberry's DOS4G pmode extender that comes bundled with Watcom C. It was popular among pmode games such as DOOM because it's royalty-free.)

You can get mods from:
http://www.back2roots.org/
http://www.modarchive.com/

If you want info on the actual file format, it's at:
http://www.wotsit.org/
