As some QB coders are attempting to push the limits of QB and break fully into the 3D world...I've decided to go backwards, back into textmode for this project. It is currently unnamed, but this is what I am planning...
a textmode fighting game.
yep.
ASCII-graphics. An ASCII-fighter, if you will. Using my old Useless Sock "graphics" library (a library which allowed sprites, lines, and ellipses to be "drawn" out of ASCII characters in text mode), it will be the ultimate in "what the hell were you thinking?" projects. In the process, I will also update Useless Sock to support BMP importing into textmode.
If anyone has any good character ideas, let me know and I'll implement them.
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

Since we're talking about "fighting games"... what happened with "Killers Remix"?
That was the first thing that popped into my mind...

Whoa, someone actually remembered that old thing?
I was in the process of converting it to my own SVGA graphics routines but ended up burning out because I couldn't design any original characters. I then developed a MUGEN game called Black Satin (using Poser 4 to create 12 original women fighters), and considered bringing Killers Remix to MUGEN but never did. Worked on a Windows version of Killers Remix for a short amount of time but again, never finished due to lack of original graphics. Maybe one day I will work on Killers Remix again but I don't know for sure...maybe I can use this fighting game design as a practice run for KR? Time will tell I reckon...

Are you going to use standard ascii characters? na_th_an developed a text mode game (I think it was called Nadia) with remapped characters. I'm sure you want to do your own style, but you might want to check it out anyway.

Original! Good luck, man. The animation invloved sounds pretty tedious. I cant wait to see it! Old Skool!
(But not quite as tedious as doing this:
