how do you rotate objects?

I know how to rotate things, I just need to know how to translate the x,y and z coordinates to just x and y for displaying on the screen. Any help?

screenx=dist*x/z+middlex
screeny=middley-(dist*y/z)

there are a lot of projection formulas but that should work. ;*)
y smiley is 24 bit.
