business apps...

Quote:Visual Basic it's really detested by some people because to write a database application with it it's a piece of cake. Now, why these people relate the "easier to use" concept with "it's bad and it should be destroyed from the Earth"? Dunno, and I'll never understand. And I'm not only talking about Visual Basic. [Image: soupson.gif]

Use mySQL, Micro$not SQL server, DB2, Oracle, whatever... but please don't use Access! Specially if you want the statement "handle large databases up to lets say 1,000,000 entries very easily" to be a reality...

Just that.

Use VB. The only reason it's detested by programmers is because every database is cookie-cutter pre-fab deal, so it ends up being a huge security hole...

use whatever you want, imho, but make sure it's up do date. if you want to stick with basic, yeah, vb is your best option.

@hex: only his friends call him "the glenn" Wink

i've seen them. they might have been his friends, but they looked like either his bookies or his wife. either way they were slamming a car door on his head. i didn't ask... (i assumed they were pals because they'd just come out of a lakers game)

I can't use it as an "avatar" because geocities doesn't like direct links.

I liked spam better when it was something that came in a can.
Windows should be defenestrated.

I have programmed a few business apps for local businesses using only QB. The largest one I have programmed is a Cash Register, Time Clock, Inventory Management (With Qty Tracking), Accounting and Reorder Lists. It supports up to 100 User Names and 10,000 Item Numbers, Prices up to $9999.99 and item qty up to 999. If you go over the 10,000 record numbers it will take a while to search (about one second for each 10,000 records). I checked the time to search for 1,000,000 and it took about 53 seconds. So, I would advise dividing it up into different files for each letter. If you are sure that you want to use QB then it CAN be done. If you need help you can email me and i will help you.
