MS and p2p? I guess it will be a great load of spyware to control you, your thoughts, the things you do and the things you have.

Not fair.

The "bubble vision" can be turned off easily, and the processes can be killed. And "Longhorn", as I'm not even sure it's still even called, has a lot of things in it that are total crap, but I've not heard about the built-in p2p yet (sounds like yet another piece of total crap). Care to provide a link to said information?

Zack, the Pentium 4 is the worst computer for legacy 16 bit apps (like all QB games). They cut out SO MANY THINGS in the processor's design that are vital for legacy programs. The Athlon is so much better in this respect because it uses the same core technology that we've relied on for so long.
I'd knock on wood, but my desk is particle board.

And is it completely, backwards, completely, backwards, completely, totally compatible with the P4?
And it suits me fine, anyway. Smile

NO!!! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!!!!

XP DOES NOT DO DOS BETTER THAN 2k. AT ALL. ANYWHERE. PERIOD. UNDER ***ANY*** CIRCUMSTANCES.

I want to make this perfectly clear: XP AND DOS ARE A HORRIBLE, CRASHY, UNRELIABLE, UTTERLY USELESS COMBINATION.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! Windows 2000 with VDMSound will run nearly every dos program out there if EMS is working, and the exceptions will not work at all under XP. XP crashes with simple programs like PDS or VBDOS!!! XP cannot handle VESA at all. XP does midis in such a way that programs using midis will be choppy and the sound will be horrible.

If you pass over 2k for XP for better dos support, you'll just end up with a useless computer that you need to sacrifice infants to when you want a dos program to run! It plainly, simply, undeniably SUCKS.

Furthermore, as a general use OS, Windows 2000 tends to be more stable, more secure, just as supported, and a lot quicker, because it's an OS designed for professionals, and not for people who think most PCs have drink holders installed in the drive bays.

Finally, the age arguement doesn't hold, because you're replacing a 3 year old OS with a 2 year old one. Who cares? If all your applications run and all your hardware works, it's a matter then of asking which OS is superior. Personally I think 2k blows XP away in every way that matters, but hey, your choice. Just remember. XP AND DOS ARE NOT GOOD FREINDS!

SJ Zero: That's in your computer. I have no problems in any of my computers with XP and DOS, even in this portable. In W2K, in my other box, I can't run anything that uses VESA modes. The same apps and games worked when the comp had W98, and that's not a hardware issue, as the videocard was formerly plugged in my main computer that runs WXP and every VESA game worked great.

I have both an XP and a 2k computer, and both run DOS/QB equally good, only thing not working is some VESA modes. I like XP better though because of the system restore which have saved me a couple of times. I have no problems with crashing programs or bad midis or whatever, either. Also I love the way that more than one user can be logged on at the same time.

And there weren't like a billion posts about how qb/pds/vbdos no longer worked in XP only a couple months ago?
