Virus?/Worm? help.....
#1
I have this nasty Virus?/Worm? that infeced my system last night. I don't know if its a virus at all since AFAIK, it did not come from an EXE or a COM file. It prolly doesn't even embed itself on any exxecutable code since I I did was transfer some TXT and GIF files from a floppy.

here are the effects:

1. It puts two files(Folder.htt and desktop.Ini on all your explorer folders.

2. Makes your system slow.

3. Prolly a boot sector virus since I tried deleting all those files and Cold booted my system and it rewrites those two files on the fly as I open a folder or make a new folder.

thanks for anyone who could help.

I would install Norton AntiVirus if you don't have you can get a demo at http://www.symantec.com and if that doesn't work use almighty FDISK. You may have stuff you want to keep so if you have an old and smaller drive you could copy the stuff to there then proceed with what I wrote above and finally get an antivirus that will clean your comp.
o, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane?! -A.J. Rimmer

Get and run a virus scanner on it now. F-Prot is a free and often updated scanner (and it's for DOS too!). It sounds like it may be a version of the RedLof worm.

Yeah, I think its redlof but the gif files in windows>system is not the one in the redlof docs.

Heeeeeelp!!!!!

I have a batch file remover given to me by Toonski but I fear that if it aint redlof my registry would be doomed!!!!

any remover that could fit in one Diskette?

As statistics show, it might be the VBS.Redlof.A virus. :-(

rel: back up your registry and try it.

go to start -> run & type in regedit

To export all or part of the registry to a text file

1) Click My Computer to export all of the registry, or click a folder to export only the contents of that folder.
2) On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
3) Browse to a location to store the exported file, and then type a name for the new file.

http://antivirus.com / Trend Micro saved me last year when I got a virus. It comes with a free online scanner. But that didn't work when dad's computer got infected but I figured out what virus it was(can't remember how) and just downloaded their free remover which fixed it. I bought Norton Anti Virus after the first incident but need to update it.. when I get around to it ;-)
