Okay, why would anyone think math is evil/useless/nonesense?
1) Everything in computers relies on it.
2) Everything in engineering, physics, and some stuff in Chemistry relies on it.
3) Everything in accounting, architecture, and many more careers rely on it.

Some math.

Here is a simple example:

a = b

b = a

a = b

If a = b it must follow that from obtuse rotungulan theorem b = a. If b = a squared to a giraffe's neck is a then b must be 0!

If a = b then it follows from the symmetric property of equality that b = a.

The rest is Aga's nonsense.

As far as nonsensical math. There is a lot of work done in math with no indication that it has any practical purpose. It is developed purely as an exercise in reason. One mathematician that did this was George Boole in the nineteenth century. He created a system of logic that had no known application. Today we know it as Boolean Logic and it is the basis of computers.

I had a physics instructor that used to enjoy pointing out how mathematicians strive to develop pure mathematics, and physicists come along and find some use for it.

This is how I see it.

A <> B True
A = A True
B = B True
A = B False
B = A False

Hey SCM, don't forget about Julia and Mandel. :*)

AGA: Never studied Geometry?

Guys, I never listened to my math teachers in High School and believe me, I regret it now. :*( Though I still graduated at the top of my class, I missed half of my trig and physics class due to previliged travel(Editor in Chief of our school paper) which I enjoyed. Never attended Algebra(most of it) and took up nursing at Uni which is not very math intensive.

Ever wonder why I can do vector math? I still read math books. Call it self learning.

Math is the basis of programming. :*)

SCM you sighted a very good example. Guys, I have come to know that math is always far ahead of any other subject. So, it will be quite sometime before we are able to see theoretical applications of these mathematical tools.

Another example i would like to sight is of radio waves. They were just a set of mathematical expression until something practical was developed. Just come to think of it, WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellphones, FM, Walkie-talkies, internet, etc... wouldnt have been possible without that theoretical junk =P.
