Yeah, any resolution above 800x600 in windows environment shows everything very small. But for games 1024x768 and up rocks!

I am the hi-res freak. You need hi-res if you are working with GFX programs or coding
I should be the only one guy who used Windows 3.1 in 1024x768 around 1994 and in a sucky Olivetty 14" monitor

If things are too small at higher resolutions, you can change the font and icon size. I much prefer 1024x768. There is more room for things on the desk top, and, as na_th_an said, it is much better for working with graphics.
