It seems all of you were waiting for my reply. Well I'll make this one short and sweet.
Firstly, all of you are sore at me for posting one liners. My response to this is, I've been posting such 'oneliners' to threads which have went way off track as well as some normal threads. If nathan decides to reply to threads which are completely offtrack while he is at work or studying then it isnt my problem. He can choose to ignore those threads. As I reply to such threads only when I have the time for it(~4weeks or so/year) otherwise I just ignore them.
I admit that I havent been myself lately and so I've posted some responses which have flawed information in them.
Now, about some of the one liners you all have complained about and agree that they are completely useless, I think that nathan has taken them out of context. Yes in their present form they look inappropriate. But you should consider the context when you read a sentence. Its very important:
"How do you know?" is a perfectly valid and important question as I am querying the person for the source of the info he may have posted.
"How did you calculate it?" is again extremely valid and important question as I was asking zack how did he calculate a certain number in his thread about unsigned integers. (I dont want to pick on zack but please have a look at zack's response, He responded something like : Using the windows xp calculator. Now IMO thats a useless oneliner. I just wanted to cross check whether he calculated it using the correct method.)
"So?" has a lot of meaning behind it if you care to interpret it correctly. If I post it then I am asking the poster to explain what he is trying to imply only because I want to help him but I didnt understand comlpetely what he posted.
While nathan and others of you believe that the sole smilie in a reply is bad. But then what are smilies for? They are very good at hinting and expressing your response without using words.
I dont know what Rockuman's problem is but the analogy that he has given is flawed. Announcing your project and telling people about it over a forum is good. But when someone asks about it. Thats bad? I just showed interest in his threads and asked questions about his RPG and he was sore about it when my questions lasted a single line?
Quote:But na_th doesn't think so, and nor do I
Oracle you too posted a oneliner. This has some meaning to it. Surely nathan must have been terribly annoyed to find this oneliner when he opened this thread.
Despite this if an admin feels that a particular post is 'useless' then he could very well delete it.
Quote:Strenghten the forum rules? I don't see that's a solution, 'cause I always said that represion causes rebelty and "upsetness". All we need is a call. And some action. Please ignore one liners, don't reply to them. When people are not attended they get bored, that's a fact. If one liners feel that they are annoying... well, that could prevent them from keeping posting unsenseless scum.
Nathan, if you really mean what you said in this post then I think you should've refrained from starting a new thread over this issue.
Quote:And TTBQ...I will overtake you in your post count!
Watch it Zack.
If I wanted I could quote a lot of you and take your posts out of context, twist them....etc. But I am not going to do so - just out of decency.
I was purposely avoiding writing a reply in this thread. I have seen this condition previously. This is what is called mass hysteria. There was finally some peace after the AAP flaming got over.
Nathan, my reply may seem targeted to you. But I have chosen to use your name since you were the one who started this thread.
I will avoid posting replies containing smilies alone. But I cant say anything about the oneliners. I am a man of few words (yeah that contradicts this post).
These are my thoughts. I think I have worded it as cooly as possible so I request the admins to leave it as it is.
PS: Oracle, you shouldnt have edited aga's post. As it was blatantly obvious from the previous posts that I was being targetted.
