i]"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum ... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk?"[/i] - Dirty Harry

Quote:Doesn't excuse his [Eminem] attitude towards everything. IMHO his music is plainly, openly violent. That isn't needed these days.

I think he is an incredibly clever artist. I dont enjoy much of his music, but he knows exactly how to write a song that can be sold to angst filled teenagers. I would wager that alot of what he writes about is purely for commercial sale and not because of his bad childhood. I could be wrong though.

Alot of bands have produced music which has just as much angst/violence/etc in it as Eminem, but never gets complained about because the meaning of the lyrics isn't always blantantly obvious. For example
Quote:I need something to do, I need to feel the sickness in you.

I feel the reason as its leaving me, no not again.
Its quite decieving, as Im feeling the flesh make me bad.

Is about the lead singers sexual abuse as a child. This is one of my favourites pieces of clever lyrics:
Quote:Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
but I would not want
You any other way.

Cause,
It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said,
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.

The song is about societies desensitisation to media, like the dress standards that were acceptable on television between today and ten years ago. The lyrics themselves are a double metaphor, because the song can also be taken (at first glance) as a song about a sexual act.

The above are only my interpretations of the lyrics, as with any writing, only the author knows exactly what the meaning of the piece is.

I really tried to listen to all of it & whichforth I even tried to stomache listening to m&m but regardless maybe it's the dates & location I grew up in but I still say :
AC/DC Lynard Skynard Cinderella Guns n Roses
Black Sabbath Iron Maiden Eric Claypton CCR The Doors
give em a shot. I grew up in the country in the USA,
I grewed up on a dairy farm & Yes I have longer hair than some women. I beleive in a world of peace. I think its obtainable if all of the worlds admins would try harder.
If you really like music try out :
Guns & Roses , Civil War
The actual words on rock are more differant than say m&m
There is alot of differance in just the words along.
May peace be with you in your darkest hours.

People! If you want good music, then I can recommend the following music:

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin soundtrack
James Last
Paul Mauriat
Ennio Morricone

I LOVE that music. Try it - maybe you'll like it too. ESPECIALLY (!!!) the soundtrack. Hitman 2 has THE GREATEST MUSIC ever made... I often start listening to the music instead of playing the game when I start it... And the soundtrack is PERMANENTLY in my CD player. The other music I specified is on tapes (in my case).

(Yes, just laugh!!! But I still use tapes!!! What could you expect of a crazy russian programmer...!)

Man, I dunno about that... Sure, I like lots of 70s music, especially the rock. But I also like a lot of 90s rock music, especially grunge... I loved Pearl Jam and Nirvana, and Stone Temple Pilots also was very nice. I liked a lot of 80s Metallica though too. Don't know when The Black Album came out but I love 2 songs off it, and think they are the best (and only very good) Metallica songs. Anyhow lots of rock also sucked from the 90s also, including goth/punk/pop/deathmetal however there are exceptions for all those I'm sure.

It's funny how many coders like rock music. Maybe somebody should do a poll on that Wink

I like funk/soul/house kinda stuff mainly, but will always have time for Guns n Roses and Queen.. Sweet Child o Mine is one of the greatest songs ever!

I thought the 80s was pretty horrendous overall though cos of that blinky-blonk electronic craze *shudders*
