QBasic syntax highlighted code
#41
Two suggested color schemes:
Quote:1. Comments are grey italics, quoted strings are dark red, numbers are red, language keywords are bold dark blue, everything else is dark blue.
Quote:2. Comments are dark green, quoted strings are dark purple, numbers are red, language keywords are blue, and everything else is black. No bold or italic.

The first is how ConText highlights VB. The second is how it does PowerBasic (you have to download the PowerBasic highlighter file separately).

Both look pretty good on the white background subSilver uses for quotes and code, I'm switching to the other theme to see how it looks...
EDIT: Darn, they're both hard to read, mainly the dark colors. Stupid dark background...

Can you do a separate color scheme for each theme?

...nor does it support color or multiple fonts because it's a plain text editor, but it can display bold, italics, color and perhaps more (underline?) for syntax highlighting.

But don't take my word for it: Download ConText, then create a .BAS file so you're using the VB highlighter, then type in a comment. It will be in italics.

Here's QBasic 7.1... dissected...

Top

Left side

Right side top

Right side center

Right side bottom

Bottom

It would be cool... and the pictures added togheter is only 41.8Kb so no real bandwidth sucker..

Converting them to JPG would mean even less size....

Now you just have to figure out the blue color used in the picture... (R:0 G:0 B:128 according to paint)

Then make colors that fit on the blue background, and noone can complain about it not showing on their theme...

Sorry... I looked on the Context website and looked at the screenshots of the syntax highlighter to get a feel of it, but alas! There were no bold or italics...

Yep, that's what's being done currently. However there's no bold/italic etc support yet. Maybe later.

The images are cool, though I'm gonna have to think of a way of using the correct bbcode .tpl when someone specifies QB... I have a devious plan though Wink.

I'll convert the images when I do it. Now, colour schemes for this new idea?

Just change the quote backgrounds in all themes to be blue, then you dont' have to make a different one for each. And add the images if you want.

43 Kb those images? :o

I'm sure you saved using 256 colours... Get them in photoshop and save them correctly... You can save a lot, I'm pretty sure.

They are uncompressed 256color bitmaps... saved in photoshop

I made them that way to allow Oracle to edit them if he wanted to, without having to convert them first.

And no-one ever said that BMP's are small... Tongue

Their sizes are: 18.5 + 18.5 + 1.27 + 1.16 + 1.16 + 1.16 kb's
And they are: 640x28 + 640x28 + 8x28 + 8x14 + 8x14 + 8x14 pixels

That's my point, no use to save with 256 colours. The first one just has 3 colours. I used photoshop and reduced it to 1,047 Kb Smile [18 to 1 kb is a good ratio Big Grin]
