I think businesses should be able to open on religious holidays if they want to. Those who wanna take time off can, and have it discounted from vacation.

Thats currently being debated in New Zealand. Its seems that the main argument for keeping the religious holidays is that we done it that way for so long, so why change?

Also, without dragging up the whole religious debacle again, we seem to only have Christian holidays off here. New Zealand is one of the most diverse countries in terms of races, religions and cultures, yet we only honour a few of them. We should either honour all religious holidays (In which case I would have to work very few days a year ;-)) or allow businesses to choose which holidays they wish to honour.

Canada is the same way, especially around the Toronto area. Since Canada has been going the way of the liberals in the last few years, it'd be nice to see them do the same thing with holidays. Of course, the USA will never do that, but hey, one country at a time, right?
