Compiled QB45 programs in Win XP?
#1
Hello everyone!

I mailed a QB45 game that I downloaded to a friend who uses Windows XP, but he said he couldn't execute it. Is there any special trick needed to make compiled QB programs work under XP? I'm also working on a game myself, and it would be kinda sad if noone could play it under XP.

I can only think of two reason, a) it is compiled not as a stand alone exe(it will require brun45) or it uses ems.

To fix the first one just select Standalone exe and not require brun45. For the second one you need to create a shortcut to the exe and change the properties for the shortcut under the memory section and allow ems/xms to be used.

It is a standalone file, and the readme didn't say that it would need ems/xms either. I'll try the shortcut thing nevertheless.

No, the dude said it wouldn't work this way. Any other suggestions? None of you guys having problems getting these things to run?

The main problem is that you are trying to run a DOS program under Windows XP, which only emulates MSDOS partially. Most DOS programs should work, but a number will fail. There's nothing you can do about that.

... this makes me want to uninstall xp and replace it with Win2K or something _older_....

I've had some problems.... Shell Shock seems to just freeze, and Percussor asks for XMS/EMS after I've enabled them both....

Ok, so the dude obviously found a way to make it work. Dunno how, he said it wasn't the ems/xms thing, but something different. At least it seems to work. Need to ask him how he did it.
