Keyboard Problems
#1
Hey,

So I'm having problems with my keyboard in dos based programs. At first I thought there was something wrong with my code in qb games, but then I played another, non-qb game and I have the same problem. Basically, my problem occurs in scrolling shooters, and the problem is this: I press to one side and when I hold down for too long, i get "stuck" against that wall. Even when I release the key, I am still pushed up against the side and I can tell that the thing thinks i'm still pusing sideways because the ship is on a tilt. Any ideas where this might be coming form? I've messed with the repeat rate on my kb and stuff like that but it doesn't seem to do it. BTW, i'm running Logitech cordless elite keyboard if anybody thinks that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Aaron

Yes.

Expecting winXP to flawlessly emulate your wireless USB keyboard for software made 15 years ago is a little much. It may be that VDMSound could help you out, or alternatively, pick up an old clunker (p100) at a garage sale for $50 and play your games on that.

Ahh, but you fail to realize that I use a PS2 adapter and VDMS already... Big Grin

I would do the clunker thing, but unfortunately I don't have space in my little college room, perhaps I should go back to dual booting...

The type of keyboard doesent matter, the input from the keyboard is the same.

If you press A on a PS2 keyboard it sends an A to your DOS game.

If you press A ona USB keyboard it sends an A to your DOS game.

Try disabling XP's "Slow key's feauture" (or is it called "Fast keys"... hmm)

It's the same thing if you repeatedly press shift (fast) XP minimizes your app and tells you that it has activated [argh, forgot it's name]...

Crazy as this sounds, I think I've gotten it to work by going through xp's virtual dos stuff. I don't know why VDMS wasn't working for me, but its working fine for me now when I just go through windows. Thanks for the help though,
Aaron
