phpBB does include a "nonactive" feature, but once again, it's manually operated (unless the user is banned), and if you're nonactive you have to email the admin and ask for your account to be reactivated.

But what about a new filter to the memberlist page, where you can sort by last post.

Then everyone would be happy, it would be easy to see how many active members here are, and newbies coming here for the first time will still see the 1000+ members.

I don't know any PHP Tongue

Not saying that it's easy, but would it be that hard?
Just a sort all the users by last post instead of name/joining date, then print it out.

Or am I missing something?

You're missing the complicated world of phpBB Smile. It's not as easy as it sounds, because phpBB's designed to be generic software. If I wanted to do what you suggest, I'd have to define some tricky sql and modify at least three files, and more like 6 Smile
