wow, sounds very bad. were there any errors before all this started? missing .dll's maybe? "unassociated" icons sounds like bad data on the drive. when the screen was black on the first book did the bell sound? the bell always soudns on my comp when it cant read the hdd.

Reading your posts, I think this is really bad. I have already backed up most of my QB files as it wont read about 30% of it. Luckily, most of my *loved*proggies are alright. I don't care much about any other data, but my games and one QB shooter I was *secretly* making featuring an all-ripped tiles and sprites are gone. :*(

Took 30 floppies to backup my QB files. :*(. Can't use winzip.

I already took it to the repairshop and I pray they could ressurect it to life. ;*(

BTW, do you guys know how to get a serial number off a Windows 98SE intaller CDROM? I might need it if the comp gets fixed. :*)

No. It's still in the repairshop. Didn't have time to visit the shop. :*(

I was planning on a low level reformat after it gets fixed. If ever that happens. I hope nothing happens to the HD though cuz I have problems finding Hd's < 10 G here. :*(

Storage has become very cheap. The minimum now that is available is 40GB. Though second hand 6.4GB/10GB hdds are still available.

That's exatly what my main problem is. My comp wont recognize HD's bigger than 10 G.
