News Submission Guidelines
#1
Very Important!

This is for everyone (including current News Moderators). Please pay close attention to the guidelines listed. While these aren't rules set in stone they will *greatly* improve the chances that your news will end up being approved.

These guidelines were created in result to a growing "problem" with news submissions and the type of news being approved (especially recently). One of the main goals is to keep news interesting, relevant, and formal-looking. We (the admins) feel that following these guidelines will help to achieve this.

------------

The Guidelines

Approved News should:
1. have an accompanying URL to whatever the news concerns. No URL means it is really only an "idea" in someone's head (or someone is being forgetful and didn't include a URL). An idea isn't front page news but should instead be posted in another forum.
2. have proper spelling and grammar. This means that an otherwise valid news submission may have to be edited. If a news moderator is not sure about something spelling- and/or grammar-wise then a PM can be sent to another, or even all other, news moderator(s) asking for assistance with editing. Likewise if the original news submitter isn't sure about something he/she can either consult with someone else or go ahead and submit it as is leaving the news moderator/admin to correct anything that may need to be corrected.
3. contain no emoticons (smilies and whatnot).
4. have URLs enclosed in [url] tags. URLs should be shown as full URLs and not use text to describe the URL. (i.e. be in the form http://www.somesite.com and not descriptive text)
5. be relatively short and definitely no more then half the height of the front page (even half would be pushing it).

------------

News submissions that follow these guidelines make the Admins and News Moderators jobs easier. Faliure to follow these guidelines means your submission has to (and will) be edited to meet them.

These are not meant to be restrictive but are (as I said above) meant to keep things interesting, relevant, and formal looking.

Thank you. Smile

Hi there! Here's a friendly little news submission guideline reminder.

#4) Use url tags when posting a link.

Lately some news posts having links have been lacking the proper url tags. The Url tags are really needed because without them links won't display as links on the main qbnews page. (I've been fixing them, which is kind of fun when you're bored).

Thanks.
