Ok, here it comes.
I need a printer for printing dvd-covers. How advanced printer should I buy? What's the difference between printers, the prices are very different I have figured out (don't even talk about laser-printers...too expensive) ?
How long does the paint-tubes (ok, they're prolly not called that) hold when printing dvd-covers?
Basicly, I wan't the cheapest (but still ok output) thing that fits my needs.

My grandpa just bought a HP printer for a little under 1000 dkr, and it prints perfect pictures, so I'd guess it would work for covers aswell. Edit 2: It was the HP 5650, $129 according to
www.hp.com.
I dunno how long they will last, but whatever printer you buy, make sure you can change the color tube and the black tube seperatly, or even better: change each color seperatly. The last might be more expensive tho.
Edit: Also, make sure you can get the right paper for the brand you choose, tho it might work for everthing dunno. HP is widely supported in DK, so I guess it's the same over there.

To print dvd covers, it doesnt depend on the printer, but if you have the program available to be able to print them. You can print whatever you want on almost any standard printer. HP is a good choice though. Although they are more expensive than a lexmark, they are better quality, and lexmarks tend to have crooked paper feeds. The life of cartridges (paint-tubes
) depends on what % area of the paper you are printing, and in what quality (draft, normal, best). Obviously, the higher the % area of paper you are printing and the higher the quality, the faster you will have to change the cartridge. There are HPs that have seperate color and black cartidge holders, and those with the three seperate colors. Like Zap said, the three seperate colors are more expensive at first, but cheaper in the long run, since no color goes to waste, as opposed to the single tri-color cartridge.

I would not buy a lexmark. You will find that their ink cartridges are more expensive then most others. And if possible I would find one that each color cartridge is seperate. I have a Cannon S820 photo printer with 6 seperate ink cartridges, and It is definitely the way to go. I also have a Cannon BJC 2000 printer with one color cartridge. When one color is empty you have to buy another color cartridge. Oh well, thats just my two cents.

Can't you "refill" the cartridges in your place? Here you may buy a lexmark and its expensive cartridges. When pink runs out, you have those kits they sell with a needle and a bottle of pink ink and you refill it. It is really cheap this way, everybody here does it.

When you buy a CD/DVD labelling kit (with the press), it should come with software...you can also download it for free (legally) in most cases.
