Looked pretty bad from the photos. I have some relatives who were in the track - I'm hoping they turned out OK.

Nah, I'm fine. We got a
little bit of Tropical Storm Bonnie, but that was it.
All of the people closer to Central Florida got the
real hurricane. I never really understood the seriousness of them because years ago, when Hurrican Opal hit (I was living where I am not back then, about 6 years old), he just left, came back, and all I saw was that stuff was blown around. I was ignorant of the fact that people
were getting killed in them.
But yeah, thanks for asking.

Only South Florida got it really bad. Once it hits land, though, they tend to slow down to Catagory 1 speeds, which most of Florida is prepared and insured for. The pictures on TV are of southwest, where it was 140mph winds. By the time it hit the Space Coast (where I live) it had slowed to a breezy 60-70mph. I slept through it. Orlando got something of an unexpected last-minute run-in with it, but it's mostly damaged roofs and fallen trees. My prayers go to the people down south though, because a lot of homes were destroyed there.
Erin, Andrew, Floyd, Irene, Charlie... Man, those are just the ones I remember scraping Melbourne.... It always seems like they turn at the last minute and hit NC.
