Let’s travel right back to the good ‘ol ANSI days, shall we?
#1
Dearest *PRECIOUS* all of you and the QB45/QB71 community,

Hello and welcome, as I want to show you my newest breed of artworks that I believe you will certainly enjoy! Big Grin !

Remember the splendid old days of ANSI on the BBS (Bulletin Board System) on the IBM computers and PCs during the ‘80s/‘90s? That was taking place at a time before the internet *even* became a buzz word at all, and guess what? Those “MS-DOS”-based special text-art screens were at the time TRULY AWESOMELY COOL back then!!! Wink Now then, I want to let you recapture some of that passionate spark by showing you my own first-ever original ANSI-based arts. I hope you like them a-plenty!

Here we go with these following ones right here:

Blazing in the Beautiful Sunset
——————————————————————————
This is my VERY FIRST full-fledged ANSI-based design that has ever been designed in a while, ever. Big Grin It is about a starship named Viper Type-ZR614 from the game “Frantic Journey” as it actually cruises in the backdrop of such a *gorgeous* sunset! You know what, people? This design, plus my growing and growing fascination with ANSI designs, has really inspired me and paved me the way for other such creations of mine as.............

The Sword and the Beautiful Moonlight
——————————————————————————
This is the second of my full-fledged ANSI-based creations. Also, this was my first full-tilt dabbling with “iCE” as well. The work here is set in a high-fantasy world at night where there is an excellently-created sword, its blade being illuminated and caressed by the full moon. It lives up to what the title of it says, as it paints up something *very* interesting here, you gotta believe me now! ^_^ !

(For those of you in the dark about what “iCE” is, it is apparently a special feature in ANSI-art that lets creators have free access to text backgrounds of UP TO 16 COLORS!! :o ! )

“Elegance” Title
——————————————————————————
As I recently experimented into my original creations of ANSI/iCE, I was slowly pulled deeper and deeper into it like quicksand, in terms of how inspired I am with the designs, so to say! ! Such is no less than the case with this title display of mine. And, just you dare wait until you check out my original and custom-rendered clouds on this text-art screen, too!! Big Grin ! Furthermore, I just *might* do an ENTIRE series of my artworks of this type and even show them off through the wonderful power of QuickBASIC!!! Only time will tell, as I could do it in an on-purpose way (just to be a rather blessing to you all, of course! Cool ! ).

All of those preceding ANSI-based text designs were created using a 80x25 text mode, and praise God Almighty that He first enabled and inspired me to do them to bless you richly! ;*) !! And you know what, before they were even created, this very 80x50 16-color art inspiration was what He has also empowered yours truly to create, and it is:

Mermaid of the Moonlight Flourishing Oasis
——————————————————————————
Oh man! This is truly an unforgettably magical design where it takes place in a starry Egyptian-like desert paradise, and there, an original animé-like mermaid of the oasis greets you truly and deeply, its loveliest dolphin-like skin so caressingly embraced by the wonderful moonlight. Initially, at first I was gonna design a tribal elf girl, but God had clearly inspired me to do something _completely_ different and a WHOLE LOT better than that, and so, this is it folks, right here!!! With that in mind now, please enjoy! ^_- !!

That is my round-up for this thread to help you relive those OUTSTANDING BBS memories and all. And ladies and gentlement, if I create any more of my new original ANSI/iCE artworks, hey, I WILL be more than cheerfully happy to place them here in this thread!!! Big Grin !!

I truly thank you all for your fine cooperation, and you have yourselves an AWESOME week!! :bounce: !

Hey, those ANSIs look jolly good! I used to dial BBSs when I was little and the Internet wasn't yet so popular. Have you checked http://www.textfiles.com/ ('ARTSCENE' at the bottom of the page takes you to ASCII/ANSI art.)

To The mega-mighty SPP:

Yes, man, I have. And as I checked out the site indeed and downloaded the ANSIs on there (and the site you pointed out to me is THE motherlode of them, by the way!! Big Grin ), I have discovered for myself that at least some of them are utterly fascinating and even just-PLAIN-EXCITING stuff back in the day, SPP. Wink

Speaking of which, upon me exploring the ANSI-packs that were created from some recent years from now (although on some to even a handful of artworks from within there, I did not like the extreme cussing and questionable material and carrying on there that tried to drive me bonkers — :???: — you know?), I found personally that some of *the best and freshest* ANSIs that I came across were these:

Blue Box
Author: Sharque
Creation Date: April 15, 2002

Lure
Author: Shrimp
Creation Year: 2002

Authors: ceelow and Zeus II
Creation Date: March 15, 2002

Creation Date: March 14, 2002

.........with my personal favorite ANSI there that I discovered which was:

Ecstasy
Author: Tsk (The Silent Killer)
Creation Date: April 15, 2002
(BEAUTIFULLY AWESOME image of a lady here, with some animé-like design overtones!! Big Grin !! )

Amazing what a little group of 16 text-based default colors can do, you know? Wink

Thank you for your fine reply here, and be seeing ‘ya! Big Grin !

Actually, the art with a very beautiful animé-based mermaid in it — which was kindly presented to you from the top of this thread — was originally created first of all using MS-Paint while I was in “Safe Mode” of Windows 98 (which was after all a fun idea to break away from me being bored all the time, you know? Wink ! ), but then, the finishing final touches were made using PSP 7 in Windows 98 normal mode, where I changed some of the color palette to better fit the style of which the thing was created, all before it was finally saved as a custom 16-color 80x50 .bmp file. Big Grin

And, when I tested the picture on Useless Sock (and what an *AWESOME* text-based graphics lib it is, too, I must purposely confess!! ^_^=b !! ), the results were no less than both remarkably and flawlessly amazing!!!

I gotta tell you, Rhiannon, they are no less than the material that really impressed me greatly, you understand me now? Thanks so much!! ;*) !

And going over to you, TheBigBasicQ:

I do not know for certain myself if there are any BBS’s still running, but there is a hunch that according to some of the ANSIs that were created from recent recent years that I have seen, yes, there *is* an apparent possibility of at least some signs of BBS’s still running and stuff, even on telnet, too! Just my guess, man, and you can feel free to check it out for yourself if you wish to. Big Grin

Rhiannon and TheBigBasicQ, I thank you both so really much for such a wonderful time. Bye for now, and be seeing you once more!! ^_- !

There are quite some telnet BBS around. Just google for "telnet BBS". Beside that, I guess there still are some BBS that you actually call with a modem, run by sysops for the sheer fun of it, or maybe in backward countries for lack of internet connectivity Tongue
