Depends on the compiler...most C compilers will give a warning if they have to typecast for you, but it will compile and function correctly anyways under most circumstances (unless you're trying something patently absurd). The smart programmers treat warnings as errors and make the correction, however...

GNU C compiler didnt flag a single warning for my example. So I guess its alright to use.
