Multiplayer problem
#1
I have and idea and I would like to know if it's feasible. Ok say I write a game in QB with multiplayer support would it be possible to play with other people directly through a com port, or through a com port to another computer thats connected to the internet running a windows program that watches the serial port and relays the data through the internet and to somone else playing the game?
o, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you are completely sane?! -A.J. Rimmer

Good luck to you I would say...

I always get a time out when I try to open those f*ckin' com ports.
And hey when they're finally open the second computer won't receive the message from the first one :???:
I did it once though by changeing some status bits of the f*ckin' port...

Thanks, I was thinking that a null-modem cable would do the trick.

How many people actually have two PCs hooked up via COM, tho? The cable alone is like 15 bucks... You'd probably be better off to try to make a DirectPlay module that communicates with your program the same way DS4QB works... or better yet, make your game in directX.

Wizardlife's is best sollution. Forget DOS if ya wanna make a TCP/IP multiplayer game.

You can also use an IPX lib (there's one in the ABC packets) to play inside a LAN.
